Picoult, Cussler, Berg headline 2009-10 Library Author Series
Best-selling authors Jodi Picoult, Clive Cussler, Elizabeth Berg, Jane Hamilton and Elizabeth Strout are set to appear as part of the Sanibel Public Library Author Series during the 2009-10 season.
“The Series promises a star-studded line-up that is sure to please the people of Sanibel,” said Duane Shaffer, library program coordinator. “We are excited about hosting some of the biggest authors in the business.”
Each author will provide a presentation followed by a book signing and a champagne reception at the library. Major funding for the Library Author Series is provided by the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, Inc.

Jodi Picoult (Monday, Dec. 7) is the best-selling author of 15 novels including “My Sister’s Keeper” which recently came out as a movie starring Cameron Diaz, “Vanishing Acts,” “The Tenth Circle,” “Nineteen Minutes” and “Change Of Heart,” which debuted at number one on the New York Times Bestseller list. Her newest novel is “Handle With Care.”
Clive Cussler (Thursday, Jan. 14) is the Grand Master of the American adventure novel. These action-packed stories have been published in more than 40 languages in over 100 countries. His internationally best-selling books have attracted over 125 million avid readers. His biggest hits include “Raise The Titanic,” “Trojan Odyssey” and “Sahara,” which was made into a movie starring Matthew McConaughey. His newest book is titled “Medusa.”
Elizabeth Berg (Thursday, Feb. 11) made her mark as a writer with the publication of her first novel, “Durable Goods,” in 1993. Berg is the author of more than a dozen best-selling novels such as “Open House,” “Dream When You’re Feeling Blue,” “The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted” and her newest book, “Home Safe.”
Jane Hamilton (Friday, Feb. 12) is the author of “The Book Of Ruth,” winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award for First Fiction, “A Map Of The World,” a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and named one of the top 10 books of the year by Entertainment Weekly, “Disobedience” and “The Short Story Of A Prince.”
Elizabeth Strout (Thursday, March 11) is the winner of the 2009 Pultizer Prize for her book “Olive Kitteridge.” Set in rural Maine, the book is woven from short stories in which Kitteridge, a strong-willed seventh grade teacher makes her appearance. Strout is also the author of “Abide With Me” and “Amy And Isabelle.”
Tickets for the Author Series are available at no charge to Sanibel Public Library cardholders one month prior to each event, and must be requested in person at the library. Each cardholder may request a maximum of two tickets. Library cards are available to all Sanibel and Lee County residents at no charge; visitor cards may be purchased for a $10 fee and are good for one year from the time you register.
The library launched the Author Series in 2008 with the inaugural event, “An Evening with Joyce Carol Oates.” Since then, several best-selling and award-winning authors have visited Sanibel as part of the series.
