Gene Spencer, Pearl Harbor survivor, passes at 97
Gene Spencer, a longtime resident of Sanibel and survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, passed away on Aug. 25 at Shell Point Hospice Care in Fort Myers. He was 97.
Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and one son, Gene Spencer Jr., along with two grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Sanibel Community Church, located at 1740 Periwinkle Way. Memorial services will also take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and a second service at Sanibel Community Church late in October for Mr. Spencer’s northern friends.
