Cape police ask for assistance locating vehicle in hit-and-run accident
Cape Coral police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier this morning. A 15-year-old male was transported to the hospital with a serious head injury after being struck from behind while riding his bicycle on Tropicana Parkway.
At 10:18 a.m., Cape Police responded to the scene of a hit-and-run accident west of the intersection at Tropicana Parkway and Northwest 24th Place. The teenager had been riding his bicycle westbound on Tropicana when he was struck by a vehicle, lost control of the bike and was thrown to the pavement, striking his head. The initial investigation indicated that the youth may have been hit in the back of the head by the vehicle’s mirror on the passenger side.
Based on the height of the bicyclist, Cape Police believe the vehicle that struck the rider was a truck or van. Prior to the crash, the victim recalls seeing a late-1990s or early-2000s model Ford or Chevy work van traveling behind him on Tropicana. The work van had a silver/gray grill and a red ladder on the top.
Cape Police are asking anyone who may have information on this vehicle or the accident to contact the Cape Coral Police Department at 574-3223 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
