Lay off the horns

By Staff | Aug 6, 2009

To the editor,

I agree with Greg Donahue in the Letters to the Editor of July 20. Many drivers don’t seem to realize that it is legal and proper for bicycles to travel on the roadways.

Only on Sanibel (and presumably other resort areas) are there designated “bike paths,” otherwise known as sidewalks. When they are used by pedestrians, Segways, strollers, surreys, etc., it does become difficult to ride safely at a sustained pace.

Many times, only my fear of being verbally assaulted or squeezed off the road has kept me on the paths. So please, folks, lay off the horns!
