Women’s Blues Revue returning to SummerJazz On The Gulf

By Staff | Aug 5, 2009

The always-popular Women’s Blues Revue returns to the “SummerJazz on the Gulf” concert series with a free concert on Saturday, Aug. 22. This will mark the band’s 11th appearance at SummerJazz, which is conducted at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on the picturesque Watkins Lawn, which overlooks the Gulf. The fun and family-friendly concerts are free and open to the public.

The concert will be from 7 to 10 p.m., and there will be parking just north of the hotel at Lowdermilk Park, with free parking provided to those with a Naples beach sticker. Free trolley service running to and from the resort is also available. Guests may bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, but coolers are not permitted.

Known in the Florida Jazz scene for many years, Women’s Blues Revue is made up of eight of Florida’s best female blues, R&B, rock and jazz musicians. All of the women are working musicians who have regular gigs with other bands, but come together a few times a year for special shows like “SummerJazz on the Gulf.”

Headlining the group on lead vocals and guitar is Patty Sanphy. The band keeps the crowd energized with their play of jump blues, funky R & B and classic soul songs.

“Women’s Blues Revue is always one of our most popular groups,” said Jim Anderson, food & beverage director of The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club, and organizer of the annual concert series. “I would have many disappointed people if they weren’t part of our SummerJazz schedule, and I’m very pleased we were able to arrange for them to come again this year. They always put on a very fun and energetic show that really gets the crowd dancing.”

The final concert of the season will be on Saturday, Sept. 19, with entertainment provided by Big Night Out.

In conjunction with each concert, The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club is offering a special “SummerJazz Rate” for concert goers who wish to stay at the resort on those evenings. The rate starts at $149 per room, per night and includes complimentary greens fees on the resort’s championship golf course, two reserved beach chairs, unlimited tennis, access to the resort’s world-class Spa and complete Fitness Center (with use of the exercise room, whirlpool, sauna and steam room), valet parking, afternoon tea and cookies at 4 p.m. daily, and admission for children ages five to 12 in the morning activities of the Beach Klub 4 Kids supervised child activity program. While the greens fees are complimentary with the special rate, there is a cart fee.
