Sponsor list for New Year’s Eve Party tops 50

By Staff | Jul 8, 2009

New Year’s Eve might be six months away, but from the way the number of party sponsors are lining up, you might want to start putting the champagne on ice right now!

In less than a month, the City of Sanibel has received the support of more than 50 local businesses, community organizations and private citizens for the 2009 New Year’s Eve Party, to be held at the Sanibel Recreation Center. All proceeds from the Dec. 31 event will support scholarships – awarded upon financial need – for children who enroll in the after-school and summer childcare programs at the Rec Center.

According to event coordinator Barry Alan Roth, the New Year’s Eve Party will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31 and run through Friday, Jan. 1 at 12:30 a.m. An all-you-can-eat buffet will include hot dogs, pizza, veggie trays, popcorn, desserts and more. Beverages will include soft drinks, root beer floats, milkshakes, coffee and tea.

“The [Rec Center scholarship] program is a very good program and makes it affordable for more people to take part, so I knew there would be a lot of support for it,” said Roth. “We would like to get around 200 sponsors for this. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.”

As of Monday morning, the list of party sponsors (in order of participation) includes Biddle’s Restaurant & Piano Bar, Biddle’s Bucket, Dairy Queen Sanibel, Pfeifer Realty Group, Sanibel Deli & Coffee Factory, Lazy Flamingo, Chocolate Expressions, SanCap One Source Realty, Bank of the Islands and The Roepstorff Family.

Also sponsoring the shindig are Giggles, The Sanibel Cafe, Shop on Sanibel, Chuck and Helen Ketterman, Lily & Company, Val Ward Cadilliac, Periwinkle Park and Campground, Barry Alan Roth, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Bailey’s General Store, Bailey’s True Value Hardware, The Sanibel-Captiva Trust Company, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, Sanibel Packing Company, Paul and Lucy Roth, John and Donna Schubert, Gulf Breeze Cottages, Sanibel Beauty Salon, Select Vacation Properties and Sanibel Shell Automotive.

More recent supporters include Island Styles Remodeling, Inc., Zurbriggen Financial, Ginny Fleming, The Lighthouse Cafe, Barefoot Charley’s Painting & Laura, Mike and Maureen Valiquette & Sandcastle Construction Company, Amy’s Something Special, www.Seashells.com, Maryanne Daly and Jerry Edelman, Pak-N-Ship of Sanibel, Suncatcher’s Dream, Traders, Art in the Tree Tops Gallery, The Herb Strauss Schoolhouse Theater, Murty & Monk, Billy’s Bike Shop & Segway of Sanibel, Sanibel Community Church, Sam and Cookie Bailey, The Grog Shop and the Over Easy Cafe.

Proceeds from the sale of party-sponsorship signs – $135 and $195 – help our island workers so their children can attend the City of Sanibel Recreation After School Program, fun days at the Rec Center when the school is closed, and summer camp at the facility.
