Police have arrested a Cape Coral man in connection with an early-morning home invasion that left one victim injured from a minor gunshot wound and two suspects hospitalized with stab wounds Saturday.
Leandro Stocco, 18, of 1904 S.E. 10th St., was charged with armed burglary and aggravated battery with a firearm. Cape police also have charges pending on two juvenile suspects, officials said.
Cape Coral police were called to 4912 York Street at 5:44 a.m. in reference to an armed burglary. The victim told investigators that he was sleeping when he heard his doorbell ringing and banging around his residence. He said he got up, grabbed his pocket knife and went to look out the front windows of the home. The man observed no one outside but, as he turned to head back to his bedroom, he heard a loud smash to the rear of the residence, officials said.
The rear slider was shattered and, when the man looked through his bedroom door, he saw three men standing around his bed. A female resident of the home began to scream. The victim said he was in fear for his girlfriend and himself, and he began to stab and attack the first male that came near him. He said he was punched in the face, fell to the ground and then heard a gunshot from a possible shotgun. The victim got up and continued to fight until the suspects fled in a black 4-door vehicle. The victim was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital via ambulance with an injury to his leg where the bullet grazed him.
The victims were able to identify two of the suspects who entered the home, officials said, adding that they indicated that Leandro Stocco and one of the males who was stabbed were former friends.
Stocco was located at his residence and taken to the police station. During an interview with Cape Detective Kurt Grau, he admitted that he had gone to the victim’s residence with the two juveniles, officials said. He was placed under arrest and transported for booking to the Lee County Jail.
The identification of the remaining suspects is being withheld by police pending arrest.
