Sanibel Softball League: Great White Grill eats Dirt (Baggers)
Last week’s Game of the Week was the Great White Grill vs. the Dirtbaggers.
This game was like an iron curtain – both team played stiff defense. With 13 runs scored total, it was the lowest scoring game of the season and tied for lowest scoring softball game in recorded Sanibel history (Gasparilla Pirates vs. the Sanibel Eagles in the winter of ’07).
In the bottom of the final inning, the Dirtbaggers were winning by one run with Great White Grill up to bat. GWG not only scored one run to tie, but two runs to win the contest.
“We came, we saw… we dropped the ball,” said Dirtbaggers player Steve Taub.
Final score: Great White Grill 7, Dirtbaggers 6.
In the other games played last week, The Dunes put a shiner on All Island Glass, winning 30-16. Bailey’s won their game without having even to step onto the field – Biddle’s Bucket had to fold before the game started. Too many players went back up north. Sanctuary Island Electric sent 50,000 jigga-watts into The Sundial in an electrifying 24-2 victory. Like Ponce de Leon searching for the mythical Fountain of Youth, so too does The Sundial searching for their first win of the season.
Next week’s matchups will feature The Dirtbaggers vs. All Island Glass, Doc Ford’s against the Great White Grill, Bailey’s Baggers vs. The Sundial and Sanctuary Island Electric will host The Dunes.
