Conservancy hosts free Earth Day Weekend Festival

By Staff | Apr 7, 2009

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida will host the 2009 Free Earth Day Weekend Festival presented by Fifth Third Bank April 18-19 at the Conservancy Nature Center, located at 1450 Merrihue Drive in Naples.

The annual weekend-long, Earth-friendly event will feature an organic farmer’s market, special exhibits, children’s carnival, educational presentations, live entertainers and guest speakers. Whole Foods also will host a healthy cooking demonstration for children and will be donating their reusable bags for shoppers to use in the farmer’s market.

“Earth Day is a great reminder about how we all make small efforts each and every day to help protect our Earth and the precious natural resources right here in southwest Florida,” said Andrew McElwaine, Conservancy president and CEO. “We hope guests will learn new things at the festival. Also, we thank our presenting sponsor – Fifth Third Bank – and our other sponsors – Amerivest Realty and Whole Foods – for helping us provide this educational, family-oriented fun event.”

The free Earth Day Festival will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. Because of green construction on the Conservancy campus, parking onsite is very limited. In keeping with the Earth Day celebration, the Conservancy encourages festival-goers to carpool to the event. Additional parking also is available across the street at Lake Park Elementary School.
