Free blood pressure screenings at Rec Center

By Staff | Jan 26, 2009

Are you one of three of American adults with undiagnosed high blood pressure? Could monitoring your blood pressure keep you “Fit 4 Life?”

The Sanibel Fire & Rescue District has teamed up with Sanibel Recreation Center to offer complementary blood pressure screenings on the first Monday of every month.

The next free screening will be held on Monday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. until noon.

According to the American Heart Association, about one in three U.S. adults have high blood pressure, and most are unaware of the condition. High blood pressure increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease and even blindness in some cases. The Sanibel Fire Department’s complimentary screenings are offered as a first step in determining if further examination by a health care professional is necessary.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is located at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road. Daily, weekly and annual memberships are available. For more information, call the Sanibel Recreation Center at 472-0345 or visit their Web site at www.mysanibel.com.
