“Diner’s Delight” coupon books are back

June 4, 2020

With restaurants reopening as COVID-19 restrictions ease, the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club has reinitiated the sale of its annual "Diner's Delight" coupon books that offer 2-for-1 savings on entrees at participating businesses.

In addition to raising funds for the club's service work, the program is designed to give a promotional boost to restaurants during the second half of the year - when out-of-town visitors have departed - and it traditionally gives islanders an opportunity to try out new places to dine and revisit old favorites.

However, this year has been far from traditional, given the struggle that restaurants have had to face being shut down for months. The club is hoping that this year's coupon books will encourage residents to get back in the habit of going out to eat and give some extra support to their favorite dining places.

The books can be obtained from club members and can be purchased at Bank of the Islands, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank's island branches, Tortuga Beach Club, Shell Island Beach Club, Island Pharmacy, Bailey's General Store, Island Winds, Periwinkle Park, and Big Red Q Printing.

Cost is $40 and each book has coupons valid at 30 local establishments through Dec. 18.

Restaurants this year include: Blue Giraffe, Bubble Room, Doc Ford's (Sanibel and Captiva), Dunes Club, Cielo, Island Cow, Island Pizza, Jerry's Cafe, Joey's Custard, Lazy Flamingo (Periwinkle and Santiva), MudBugs, Matzaluna, Normandie Seaside Cafe, Rosie's, Keylime Bistro, RC Otters, Sunshine Seafood, Captiva Cantina, Sanibel Deli & Coffee Factory, Sanibel Fresh, Sanibel Sprout, Subway, Seabreeze Cafe, Sunset Grill, Thistle Lodge, Timbers, and 'Tween Waters Captiva House.

The Kiwanis Club suggests calling ahead to restaurants to confirm operating hours, seating situation and their policy regarding how the "Diners Delight" coupons can be used at their establishments.

In addition to promoting restaurant patronage, the program funds the club's scholarships for island students and its grants for youth sports, recreational and educational activities. All funds raised by the books stay on the islands to benefit local youths. Over the past 13 years, Kiwanis has awarded 277 scholarships with a value of $396,000.
