On June 2, Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane extended the city's declared state of emergency - originally declared in response to COVID-19 - through June 9, unless further extended.

In addition, he issued a proclamation implementing the actions taken by the Sanibel City Council during its regular monthly meeting, including:

- Adopting Lee County's amended vacation rental standards with additional restrictions on high-risk guests

- Lifting all COVID-19 related restrictions at all city owned and operated parking lots

- Temporarily permitting the outdoor display of retail merchandise through Labor Day, Sept. 7

- Temporarily prohibiting through Labor Day, Sept. 7, the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all city operated beaches and associated parks and picnic areas with paid public parking - Bowman's Beach, Blind Pass, Gulfside City Park (Algiers), Lighthouse Beach and Fishing Pier, and Trost Parking Lot - along with the beach area at the northern terminus of Bailey Beach Road and the picnic areas at the Sanibel Boat Ramp

- Approving the phase one plan for reopening the Sanibel Recreation Center, including the sale of beach parking permits, effective June 15

- Lifting the temporary restrictions on issuing special event permits for weddings

Additionally, the June meetings of the Historical Preservation Committee and the Vegetation Committee have been canceled.

The city also received notice that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has issued Executive Order No. 20-13 rescinding Executive Order 20-09, which had established recreational vessel anchoring and occupancy regulations for all state waters.

A full story on the city council's meeting with further details is forthcoming.
