Peeking into WoW

April 1, 2020
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

As work progresses on the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Refuge's Wildlife on Wheels (WoW) mobile classroom, Wingin' It Works artist David Williams recently shared a conceptual rendering of the 3-D designs he is creating for the interior. Hands-on exhibits will explore four refuge habitats: Ocean or Sea, Upland, Coastline, and Estuary. The "Ding" Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge and the refuge hope to unveil WoW this year as part of the 75th anniversary celebration. Inside and outside learning stations will interpret mangrove ecosystems, water quality, water conservation, pollution and plastic, animal scats and tracks, Florida's native animals, wildlife sounds and other topics that meet the refuge's mission for all ages and the Florida Science Standards. To make a tax-deductible donation to the project, call Birgie Miller at 239-472-1100 Ext. 232 or visit www.dingdarlingsociety.org/donation.
