Sweet support: Bake Sale to benefit Olympic-bound teen

July 23, 2019
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

American Legion Post 123 on Sanibel is holding a Bake Sale on July 24 starting at noon.

The proceeds will benefit Bishop Verot Catholic High School incoming senior Savannah Nippa, 17. She qualified for the 2019 AAU Junior Olympic Games on July 27 to Aug. 3 in North Carolina.

Born and raised on Sanibel, Savannah will mark her fourth year on her school's varsity track team when she returns in the fall. At the Olympics, she is competing in the track and field events.

Savannah is headed to the competition with her IceUp Athletics & Track Club.

The Bake Sale proceeds will help offset her travel expenses, accommodations and entry fees.

There will be key lime pies, bananas breads, cakes, cookies and more goodies for sale.

Those without a sweet tooth - or not permitted to have sweets - can still make a contribution by donating gift cards, gas vouchers or such that Savannah can use on her way to the Olympics.

Monetary donations are also welcome.

The American Legion Post 123 is at 4929 Sanibel-Captiva Road.
