Ruth (Ganote) Hamann, died peacefully in her sleep on 5/28/2019 in San Antonio, Texas.

She is survived by her two sons, Craig Hamann and his wife Marlene of Lewisville, TX and David Hamann Jr and his wife Rebecca of San Antonio TX; five grandchildren: Sarah (Jonathan) Hartford, David III (AnnaKaye) Hamann, Samuel (Berkeley) Hamann, Michael Hamann and Lauren Hamann; two great-grandchildren, Jack Hartford and Henry Hamann; and nephew Tim (Ruth) McGee. Ruth was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 41 years David and sister Rovella (Ganote) McGee.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Ruth enjoyed her years as an elementary school teacher in Virginia and Illinois, and one year was recognized as a "Teacher of The Year" for her district. After her retirement from teaching, she moved to Sanibel Island, Florida with her husband Dave, where they owned and operated the Island taxi company. Ruth and her sister Rovella also founded a catalog company to promote the work of local Sanibel artists. Ruth later went on to become an award winning real estate agent, loving the opportunity to bring people to Sanibel and introduce them to the Island. Ruth treasured her years on Sanibel and the special friendships she developed during her time there.

Ruth was an active member of the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ and found great meaning and peace in her faith. After the passing of her husband, Ruth started a caregiver's support group at the church for members to find comfort and encouragement in their own struggles.

Ruth had a generous spirit and a sharp wit. She enjoyed dinner parties and daily walks with her friends, and loved to regale her grandchildren with tales of themed parties and cocktail hours. Ruth was an avid reader and always ready for a lively conversation and a good laugh.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the caregivers at Arden Courts of San Antonio. A private service will take place on her beloved Sanibel Island later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
