Looking to spend a night out with the family while taking in some holiday cheer at a show?

Cultural Park Theater's annual "Spectacular Christmas Revue" opens Wednesday, Dec. 12, and runs through Dec. 16.

The original revue, this year written by Samantha Pudlin and Tyler Young, tells the story of a large family preparing for the holidays, but finds they are having trouble keeping the Christmas spirit alive as they get older - though a group of orphans are about to change all of that.

"It's a fun, original, heartwarming and, for sure, among the most reasonably priced shows we offer, to bring the whole family and friends out together and enjoy the holiday," said Cultural Park Theater Executive Director Michael Moran.

This will be Pudlin's first time directing a main stage show, and was an easy choice for Moran, who usually directs.

"I have really enjoyed directing the 'Spectacular Christmas Revue' this year," said Pudlin. "I love Christmas time, and this is my first time directing a main stage show, so the combination of the two makes this all really exciting. I think the most rewarding thing about it is just seeing it come to life as our cast gets more comfortable and we get into our tech rehearsals."

Those who attend are sure to know some of the classic Christmas tunes to be sung, along with some new-age holiday music as well.

The show came to life six years ago, as Cultural Park was looking for a way to best serve thespians during the season.

"It took us a while to find the right fit for our patrons during the holidays, as there are many other Christmas shows in the area and so many people celebrating in their own fashion and customs," said Moran. "We started the concept six years ago, and it became an instant hit for Cultural Park I think, in part, because it is an original concept revue with a story line celebrating Christmas, along with adding pop, classic and even some Broadway songs with lots of Christmas Cheer-but a good mix of holiday music, with nine holiday songs that really carry our storyline."

So, what can you expect from the "Spectacular Christmas Revue?"

"The audience can expect to see a lot of heartwarming and silly moments. They will also hear beautiful singing, see amazing dancing and we even have a little mischievous visitor from the North Pole," said Pudlin. "We really wanted this show to help the audience remember what it is like to be a child at Christmas. There is a certain magic to Christmas when you're young that we sometime lose as we get older, and it was our goal to capture that in this show.

"It's all about being in the spirit of the season, and what better way to get into the spirit than to come see a wonderful show filled with holiday cheer, music, laughter and love?"

Tickets are going fast, with Wednesday's opening night performance already sold out, with the Sunday show not far behind.

The Cultural Park box office is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on performance weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can also call the box off at 239-772-5862.

Tickets are $21 for adults, $18 for seniors and $15 for students.

"We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas," said Moran. "The 'Spectacular Christmas Revue' was crafted specifically to celebrate the holidays and to celebrate everything that is Cultural Park Theater, that being our families, friends, patrons, sponsors and volunteers that keep Cultural Park one of the very best entertainment venues in the area."

Cultural Park Theater is at 528 Cultural Park Boulevard in Cape Coral.
