Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

On Oct. 31, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation celebrated the long tenure of Education Director Kristie Anders and wished her well in retirement at an open house at the SCCF Nature Center on Sanibel. Anders served in the position since 1988 and has been described as the "heart and soul of the organization, teaching thousands of residents and visitors about our good nature and history." She forged strategic partnerships with Captiva Cruises, the Captiva Island Historical Society, island Realtors and many other organizations, multiplying exponentially her educational outreach. Called SCCF's "story teller" extraordinaire, one of her final initiatives was the creation of the Paul McCarthy Memorial Lecture Series, honoring the late founder of Captiva Cruises. Anders will continue to work with SCCF as a volunteer and will oversee the first lecture of the new series on Feb. 6. For more about the organization, visit The SCCF Nature Center is at 3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road.
