The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village's free Luminary event on Dec. 7 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. will celebrate "A Sanibel '70s Christmas: Change Comes Riding In."

"We look forward to sharing some of the things that were taking place on the island during the 1970s, a very important decade in our history," Executive Director Emilie Alfino said. "This event gives visitors a chance to see the museum at no cost. Visitors can see how residents and snowbirds decorated for the holidays and view memorabilia from that exciting decade."

The emphasis will be on the historic vote to incorporate Sanibel and on the shared-use paths, which started in the 1970s.

"Also celebrated will be the accomplishments of the Sanibel women of the era, and just some fun Christmas stuff," event co-chair Bonnie Frankel said.

The Sanibel Community Chorus will perform at 4 p.m., followed by the BIG ARTS Brass Ensemble at 4:30 p.m.

"There will be a drawing for prizes using the 'ballots' attendees fill out and, of course, homemade cookies," Frankel said.
