Islands continue to waive parking fees at beaches

September 14, 2018
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The suspension of parking fees at Sanibel's beaches, which has been in place since Aug. 24, will continue through Sept. 30.

The move is consistent with the Town of Fort Myers Beach, Lee County Parks and Recreation Department and Captiva Erosion Prevention District, all which have waived fees to assist businesses impacted by red tide.

The city reported on Sept. 12 that beach conditions have continued to improve over the last week. There have not been any reports of fish kills on beaches or in canals in over a week. But, there have been sporadic reports of dead turtles washing ashore, including three on Sept. 11 on the west end.
