Captiva Memorial Library presents activities for September

The Captiva Memorial Library, at 11560 Chapin Lane, is offering the following free programs for adults and children during the month of September:

Adult programs

- Coloring for Grown-ups

The repetitive motion involved in coloring has a calming effect and adults have found the childhood activity a refreshing way to reduce anxiety, create focus or bring about more mindfulness. Participants may bring their own materials or use those provided.

- Checkers

Play classic checkers, "the game of games," or try other versions such as Fox and Geese, Give Away, Shifting Pyramids, Corner Checkers or Goban. Instructions included. Alternatively, reverse the field and play Tic Tac Toe or Super Tic Tac Toe.

Teen programs

- Sept. 28-29: Make a Cosplay Mask

Drop in and make a cosplay mask. Wear it to the third annual Comic Fest scheduled for Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Fort Myers Regional Library. All supplies provided.

Children's programs

- Sept. 1-8: A Healthy Breakfast: A Great Way to Start the Day

Drop in to see the breakfast picture book display and make a paper pancake craft.

- Sept. 11-18: Honey Bees and Honey

September is National Honey Month. Drop in and see our honey and honey bee book display. Make a honey bee out of a toilet paper tube.

- Sept. 19: Talk Like a Pirate from 2 to 4 p.m.

Enjoy a pirate storytime and craft. See a pirate.

- Sept. 20-29: Pirates of the High Seas

Check out books from the pirate book display. Make a paper plate pirate.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about a program or to register, call the library at 239-533-4890.
