Sanibel Captiva Community Bank is sponsoring a golf tournament on Sept. 22 at The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club on Sanibel, with the proceeds to benefit Captains for Clean Water.

"Florida's current water management is having devastating effects on the ecosystems, communities and economy of Florida," Chris Wittman, cofounder of Captains for Clean Water, said. "We are pleased to have the support of the Dunes golf club and the community of Southwest Florida behind our efforts to fix Florida's water quality and management issues."

"Together we have the ability to restore and preserve the Florida that is so special to all of us for future generations," he added.

The tourney will be a best ball scramble. Participants will have an opportunity to fire a golf ball launcher on the Par 4 hole for the first time ever on Sanibel, placing them in position for an eagle putt. There will also be closest to the pin and longest drive competitions.

Participants will enjoy a round of golf, lunch and soft drinks, with a cash bar available. On Sept. 21, there will be a happy hour at the Dunes in support of Captains for Clean Water, along with a preview of the silent auction and raffle items.

There are several levels of sponsorships available and each includes a foursome to play; there are also hole and cart sponsorships available. Local communities are coming together to support the event.

"As a full time, Sanibel resident for 17 years and broker-owner of a local real estate company, it is heartbreaking to see the devastation of our most beautiful resources, our waterways and beaches," Eric Pfeifer, with Pfeifer Realty Group, said. "I am proud to stand with Captains for Clean Water and acknowledge that we all agree that our economy depends on healthy estuaries, which can only occur when the surrounding watershed is protected."

"In response to our recent water crisis, my wise daughter, Darby, summed it up best when she said, 'This is a man-made problem and it has a man-made solution,'" he added. "We all have a responsibility to be a part of the solution.."
