Find solution to Shell Love Bug

April 11, 2018
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

To the editor:

We are residents of Lee County. Over the past few years, we have been privileged and excited to see the Shell Love Bug at various events around the county. It has always been surrounded by dozens of people taking pictures of it. It has had national exposure, and has been a real asset to Sanibel and Captiva. Pam Rambo has been a true ambassador of our area, and has introduced so many of our residents and tourists to the wonderful world of sea shells.

We are shocked to now be reading of the legal dispute between Pam and Lee County. The negative publicity is creating ill will with constituents who know and love this little VW. Perhaps the county person was unauthorized several years ago to promise to give the car to Pam. Even so, there must be an amicable way for the county to find a way to do the right thing by Pam and by all the shell lovers, both residents and tourists.

Please find a solution to this, before it becomes a nasty and expensive court fight, where there are no winners.

William and Marjorie Abraham
