Chauncey Goss was awarded Humanitarian of the Year during the annual Best of Islands ceremony which was held at Sundial Resort & Spa last Tuesday.

“I’m very honored. They are certainly many people on the island way more deserving,” Goss said.

Goss is a managing partner at Goss Practical Solutions and a member of Sanibel City Council where he has served a little over a year.

Before settling in Sanibel, Goss served as director of budget review and the deputy staff director for Paul Ryan’s committee on the budget. While there, he was responsible for the analytical foundation of the Republican budgets and Ryan’s Roadmap for America’s Future.

Prior to his service with the budget committee, he worked in the National Security Division at the President’s Office of Management and Budget and was responsible for helping prepare the president’s defense budgets. Goss also worked for a defense contractor and assisted the Pentagon and the Intelligence Community with strategic planning through wargaming and simulation.

He obtained a Masters degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University and BA from Rollins College.

He moved to Sanibel in 1971. His parents always told him that Sanibel is a great community to be involved in; he took their advice.

Goss is a board member at SCCF, United Way, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, the Canterbury School, Lee Coast MOAA and the Freedom & Virtue Institute.

“What’s fun about all these boards is that it helps you connect dots where different people are doing different things,” Goss said.

He is also active member on the Horizon Council which is Lee County’s economic development office.

Goss said he plans on continuing his normal routine and essentially, taking one day at a time.

“I approach life as the door opens, you go through it and you see what happens,” Goss said.
