A sure bet

By Staff | Jun 29, 2016

To the editor:

We can certainly agree there aren’t too many sure bets these days. For example, view our local political scene. Folks running for office in this area are focusing on our water resources deliberately polluted by Big Sugar. Jason Maughan running for State Senate says “somebody must do something about this”, and Chauncey Goss trying for a Congressional Seat makes water his priority issue. However, there is only one candidate, John Scott, who is in a position to really make a difference. Why? Because he is running to replace Matt Caldwell currently holding the Congressional Seat in District 79. Caldwell is Big Sugar’s errand boy who, in the words of Ray Judah, enabled the passage of a Water Policy Bill in 2016 “that undermined water resource protection form Apalachicola Bay to the Florida Keys”. Yes, Maughan and Goss can certainly cast votes if they happen to be elected. But that’s all they can do. They cannot do what a John Scott win will do, namely send Matt Caldwell home for good. His defeat will open up a real opportunity to launch a reversal of Caldwell’s highly destructive Water Policy Bill. John Scott’s goal: restore the Caloosahatchee River and estuaries by redirection of Lake O’s polluted water south through the Everglades, with the water to be stored and treated in newly constructed reservoirs. Of course, only those living in John Scott’s District 79 can vote for him. However, we can send donations to his campaign through VoteJohnScott.com. If you are looking for some real progress in resolving our water issues, John Scott is a sure bet.
