An 11-year-old boy was improving at the hospital on Tuesday after a recent traffic accident.

Noah Gordon, of 3607 S.E. 21st Ave., was listed in fair condition at Tampa General Hospital, where he was airlifted on Jan. 29 after first being transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, officials reported.

Sophie V. Gordon, 34, of 3607 S.E. 21st Ave., was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser east along Northeast Pine Island Road when she attempted to turn north onto Northeast 24th Avenue at about 8:48 a.m., according to the Cape Coral police.

Noah Gordon was a passenger inside Sophie Gordon's vehicle.

At the same time, a Mack dump truck was headed west on Pine Island, police stated.

As the Chrysler began to cross the westbound lanes of Pine Island, the dump truck driver applied the brakes. The truck began to skid, and its front end struck the right rear end of the Chrysler, according to police. The truck traveled west, then tipped over on its side, left the road and stopped in a ditch.

After the collision with the truck, the Chrysler spun and struck the median of Northeast 24th Avenue. Continuing to spin, the vehicle traveled west, and its right side hit the front of a Hyundai Sonata that was stopped at the intersection in the southbound lanes of Northeast 24th Avenue, police reported.

Following the impact, the Chrysler continued to cross all southbound lanes of 24th Avenue, according to police. It then left the road and came to rest in the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Hyundai was pushed slightly backward due to the collision but came to rest near its original location.

Noah Gordon sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

Gordon and the driver of the dump truck, Vito A. Losurdo, 49, of 14775 Indigo Lakes Circle, Naples, both sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Officials reported that both have since been treated and released.

The driver of the Hyundai, Jennifer M. Joanis, 20, 4501 S.W. 21st St., was not hurt.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash, according to police.
