Cape man shot in reported robbery attempt

On Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6:55 p.m., the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call in reference to gunshots heard at the Sienna Apartments at 3725 Winkler Avenue Extension. Upon arrival, police located one male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

This morning, the FMPD identified the victim as Keith Stengel, 58, of Cape Coral. He died from his injuries overnight at the hospital, police said.

Police have arrested and charged Brittany Stubbs, 18, of Immokalee, with felony murder during the commission of a robbery. The investigation revealed that Stubbs lured the victim to the location for a robbery.

The case remains active as detectives are investigating the involvement of additional perpetrators.
