The celebration of Francis Bailey, one of Sanibel's founding fathers who passed away on June 8, was hosted Sunday afternoon at the Bailey Homestead.
Hundreds of people came to hear remarks from the family and local dignitaries who worked closely with Francis when he served as mayor, city councilmember and community leader.
The weather on Sunday was over 90 degrees with sunny, clear skies, and although the heat may have been uncomfortable for some, members of the family said it's exactly how Francis would've wanted it.
The Francis Bailey Celebration of Life drew hundreds of people from the island. Mckenzie Cassidy.
Remarks were delivered by Porter Goss, former Sanibel mayor, and Sanibel Councilmember Marty Harrity, as well as from family members Anne Hagerty and Susan Bailey, to name a few.
The Bailey family also invited the community to attend the launch of Francis Bailey's memoir, "My 92 Years on Sanibel," at the Bailey Homestead, 1300 Periwinkle Way, on Tuesday, June 18, from 4-6 p.m.
