Gardener Lecture guest on March 7

February 22, 2013
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

John Sibley, owner of All Native Nursery, is the guest speaker for the Sanibel-Captiva Gardeners' Master Gardener Lecture Series meeting at 10 a.m. on March 7 at the Sanibel Library.

Sibley's program features more than 50 real live native plants (not powerpoint) which are successful on Sanibel Island. He presents these plants and discusses the size, shape, color and flowers or berries associated with these specimens.

Sibley literally brings a demonstration botanical garden to the group. He also suggests design, planting and establishment of these plants. Sibley has finished several projects for the city of Sanibel and continues to maintain them.

Several of the city's vegetation committee members have used his nursery for projects on their properties.

Sibley is knowledgeable and a committed educator and is the president of the Lee County Native Plant Society and Florida Native Plant Nurseries.

This is a rare opportunity to see up close and personal the many varieties of native plants, small trees, shrubs and bushes carried by his nursery. He will include comments on their value as habitat, food and the life cycle of island wildlife (birds, butterflies and even some mammalian and reptilian species). Sibley will bring an excellent take-home foldout information sheet on planting and establishing native plants. A question and answer session follows the presentation.

The session is free and open to the public, but space is limited.
