Four masked men reportedly forced their way into a Cape Coral home Tuesday night, injured two people and stole a lockbox before fleeing.

At 11:50 p.m., police responded to a report of a home invasion robbery involving weapons at 1017 S.W. 32nd St. A woman reported that the men shot out her glass front door to get in, battered her then took the box.

Upon arrival, officers observed the shattered door, which was open. A baseball bat was lying on the floor inside the home and a live shotgun shell round was close by. A second spent shell was found lying farther inside.

A hole was located in the living room ceiling, according to a report.

The women told police that she was inside her home with her son and two others when she heard two loud bangs followed by the front door shattering. A man dressed in black with a ski mask on reached in and opened the door.

Three others also wearing all back and ski masks followed him inside.

She said three of the men were armed with shotguns and one had a bat.

The men reportedly demanded money, and she told them that she did not have any money. One of the men then struck her friend in the face with the bat. She tried to stop the man and he struck her on the hand with the bat.

The men grabbed a black lockbox from one bedroom, according to the report. She said she was calling 911, and they fired off a round and fled the home.

Police collected the bat that the men reportedly left behind. A K-9 track in the area led to a fresh set of footprints, tire tracks and a pair of gloves.

The gloves, shell casings and other items were entered into evidence.

The report states that the stolen lockbox is valued at $15.
