Voices For Kids Charity Golf Tournament coming June 4

By Staff | May 25, 2011

The Lee County Bar Association is hosting a charity golf tournament on Saturday, June 4, at Old Corkscrew Golf Club. The event will raise funds for Voices For Kids of Southwest Florida, the financial support arm of the Guardian ad Litem Program.

The Guardian ad Litem Program recruits and trains volunteers from the community to advocate in court for children who are involved in the court system because of abuse, parental neglect or other issues that have placed them in jeopardy. The State of Florida is unable to provide for all of the clothing, medical, educational, and social needs of these children.

Voices For Kids is a non-profit agency that provides funding to address these needs at no cost to the child or the child’s caregivers.

“Voices For Kids truly makes a difference in the lives of local children in need,” commented Nanci DuBois, Executive Director of LCBA. “We hope to gain more sponsors and players this year than ever before to support this cause, and we are grateful to the many Guardians ad Litem who will be helping out on game day, thanks to the planning by Guardian ad Litem and avid golfer Doris Ray and Guardian ad Litem Recruiter Mary Ann Brownstein.”

For event sponsorship information, visit www.leebar.org, call Nanci DuBois at 239-334-0047, or send an e-mail to info@leebar.org.

“This is an open tournament that will feature some lively games with sponsored prizes on the course, including a chance to win a two-year lease for a Lexus from Scanlon Lexus for a Hole-in-One at #17, a Diamond District challenge at one of the holes, putting contest, and longest drive,” said LCBA Social Committee co-chair Kelly Fayer.

Her co-chair, attorney Amanda Mitteer, said, “The raffle and silent auction items we are collecting for this are worthy of even non-golfers’ attention and bidding! So come out for a fun morning with us, and stay to cheer the winners as they come in from the course.”

“There will also be a law enforcement teams challenge from Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott, with a trophy we hope will become part of a new annual Lee County Bar Association golf tournament tradition,” said LCBA President Michael D. Randolph.

Old Corkscrew Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus “Signature” designed course and can be seen at www.oldcorkscrew.com. Hole sponsorships are $125.

“The format for the tournament is a four-player Team Scramble,” said attorney Ken Jones, who is organizing the players for the event.

The entry fee is $90 per person or $360 per team, which includes golf, cart and lunch. Players and sponsors may sign up and pay online at www.leebar.org. Raffle prizes and a silent auction are also part of the day’s activities. Registration on game day opens at 7 a.m., and shotgun start begins at 8:30 a.m.
