Weatherization assistance available to eligible Sanibel homeowners
The City of Sanibel has been notified by the Lee County Department of Human Services that Lee County has been awarded $1,279,680 to assist families through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act Weatherization Assistance Program.
The mission of the program is to reduce the monthly energy burden on low-income households by improving the energy efficiency of the home. This program identifies areas of major energy loss within the home.
Structures are made weather-tight through minor necessary repairs including:
Insulation
Weather-stripping
Caulking
Replacing door thresholds and broken window glass
Cooling and heating units
Minor structural repairs
This program is available to homeowners or persons who are renting, with preference given to the following:
Persons 60 years of age or older
Disabled individuals
Households with children under 12 years of age
A household with a family member receiving Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) qualifies regardless of household income
Owner-occupied units
