On Friday, Feb. 12, friends of the late Marilyn Koren will honor this revered poet/poetry coach, who taught poetry workshops at BIG ARTS during the winter season.

Koren passed away on June 8, 2009 of complications from lung surgery, in the loving care of her children James, Maeve and John.

Those whose lives she touched in Florida will celebrate her life and works at an informal gathering in Phillips Gallery at BIG ARTS from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 12.

Attendees will be encouraged to read one of Marilyn's works, a poem they wrote under her guidance, a piece they wrote about her, something they think would evoke/honor this extraordinary poet/teacher or just sit, listen and commune.

The only proviso at this "open mic" memorial is that each reader will surrender the microphone after five minutes. If time allows, readers who are burning to share more will be given a second chance.
