American Legion features meals

Besides our daily menu, back by popular demand, we will be serving home cooked meals again.Tuesdays we will have baked chicken, Wednesdays, pork and kraut over mashed potatoes and on Thursdays we will be having homemade meatloaf dinner. We are the only place on the islands that have a pool table (2). Stop by for a game or two. Our monthly BBQ's are the 2nd and Last Sundays of the month. Saturdays and Sundays we will have homemade spaghetti served with a dinner salad. We open Monday - Saturday at 11 a.m. and at noon on Sundays. Music with our very own Robby Hutto and his band will be on Wednesday nights and BBQ Sundays at 7 p.m. We are located at mile marker #3 on San-Cap Road. Don’t forget the Lion’s Club Recycle for Sight Program

Submitted by a Lion, Bob Since the Lions‚ International Convention in 1925, when Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become The Knights of the Blind, Lions‚ Clubs around the world have been working to meet that challenge through several important programs. One of those programs is „Recycle for Sight‰ which matches your donated eyeglasses (prescription and non-prescription) to needy people worldwide. In most developing countries, an eye exam can cost as much as one month‚s wages and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people. Look around your home in dresser drawers and closets, in your workplace and in your car‚s console or glove compartment, you may find you have old glasses, outdated prescription glasses, reading or sunglasses. Even if they are in need of repair, they all can help someone to be able to see better. Just since 1990, the Lions vision programs have prevented severe vision loss or restored sight to 27 million people, that‚s more than the combined populations of New York and Tokyo. The generosity of the local businesses to be collection points for our program is greatly appreciated and we urge you to patronize them. Look for the Lions Recycle for Sight collection boxes at the following locations: Bailey‚s General Store, Jerry‚s Foods, Bank of the Islands, Snead Cataract/Eye Physicians, Island Pharmacy, the Island Seniors Center, the Sanibel Library, the Sanibel Post Office and Periwinkle Park. There is also a collection box at South Seas Resort on Captiva. The Lions would like to express our appreciation for contributing to the project's success by serving as convenient drop-off centers. Schoolhouse Theater starts summer season

The summer season at The Herb Strauss Schoolhouse Theater begins Saturday, May 23. Starting May 23rd “Where the Girls Are” opens. This high-energy musical pays tribute to some of the most recognized female-sung songs of all time. “Now That’s Entertainment” debuts on June 20th. Join the cast as they travel through songs from popular movies. “Where the Girls Are” runs Tuesday and Thursday nights and “Now That’s Entertainment” runs Wednesdays and Saturdays. Special summer prices are in effect; $25 for adults and $10 for children 16 and under. Performances are at 7 p.m. “Where the Girls Are” and “Now That’s Entertainment” run until Aug.15th. Stop and Shop at the Sanibel Public Library

The Sanibel Public Library is holding a book sale in the lobby. The sale which started on May 13th and will run until the books are gone. All books are priced at $1a bag. This is a great opportunity to shop for your summer reading materials. All proceeds from the book sale will be placed in the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, Inc. toward the support of Library activities.
